Brief History
Siberian cats have only been available in the US since 1990 when trade with Russia began after the fall of communism, but they are an ancient breed of cats from the cold regions of Siberia. As such, they are hardy animals who lived and worked beside people and are well suited as pets. There are many stories about these cats in Russian folklore and history.
A Breed Apart
Siberians are a medium large sized cat. They have a rounded body shape, and sweet face often described as smiling. Their fur is medium long and their coat is dense and resilient to water and cold. The male cats are larger than the females and they take 5 years to reach full maturity.
As a full natural breed, Siberian cats come in all different colors and markings as well as color points. From white, brown, black, red, blue, silver, and everything in between. Their eyes are large and round and can be green, gold, blue or any normal color. Yellow-green eyes are common in adults. Their ears are set wide apart with a rounded tip.
No Pussycat
Siberian cats are muscular, agile and alert cats. Their paws are large and rounded and are powerful. They are good at jumping, balancing, somersaults, and are generally active creatures. Expect them to be playful and athletic.
Siberians are smart. They are capable of solving problems, learning behaviors, and sensing emotions.
But most of all, these cats are friendly, able, loyal and loving. Siberian cats make for great companions.
